Highlights from Council and Staff
- This Thursday July 9th at 6:30pm, there will be a Co-Council Happy Hour. Please see the calendar for the link and the Zoom information below for call in information.
- The church has several LARGE PRINT “Christ in our Home devotional booklets for July-September. If you would like one, call or text Dean Z.
- Violet is still working on setting up Mailchimp as our eblast provider and will be postponing the transition until July 13th due to creating the easiest accessibility to our congregation. This will be a slow transition, but please be mindful if you do not see the Monday eblast in your inbox by Tuesday. Please reach out to OSLC915@gmail.com for assistance and troubleshooting.
- If you know of anyone or has checked on those who are shut in or do not have computer access please send their name and physical address to Communications@oslchurchdenver.org. As Violet creates this new eblast, her hope is that it is a smooth transition to a paper based option that is set to occur later in the Summer.

Care of Creation
We know that environmental racism exists wherein economically disadvantaged people take the biggest hit from environmental degradation. Along with this, we at OSL have been aware of the disparities in many other areas of our society for a long time. The events of recent weeks have highlighted those disparities dramatically. A progressive tax in Colorado, instead of the flat tax we now have, would begin to undo decades of harm from an inequitable tax code and help us recover from COVID-19 budget cuts.
Initiative #271 will create a fair tax code. It raises taxes on the wealthiest 5%, those making over $250,000 a year. It actually lowers tax rates for 95% of Coloradans who make less than that. It is estimated this will raise $2 billion a year for the state’s budget. Half of the revenue raised will go towards education.
Action:
Signatures are needed to put this initiative on the November ballot. Together Colorado, of which OSL is a member, invites your support with your signature. Governor Polis’ executive order on May 15 allowed campaigns to mail and email single-line petitions for voters to sign and return to the campaign. However, Colorado’s Supreme Court overturned that order saying it violated the state constitution which requires in person signature gathering. Gathering signatures during the pandemic is difficult, but folks are trying because this is so important. Please watch for possible opportunities you may encounter to sign a petition. Bonita B, Frank T and Jan T all have petitions and they welcome making safe and socially distanced arrangements to sign a petition they are carrying. Please call Bonita, Jan or Frank, to make those arrangements or to take a step further by volunteering your time in other ways. This will all be done safely. Thank you.

We mentioned various prayer requests within small groups on Sunday. As a collective and not being specific, we lift up that everyone stays well and smart during these unprecedented times, we pray for all small businesses and restaurants affected by Covid, we lift up marriages and health factors that are in question, we lift up the caregivers as they care for others, we lift up the first responders as well as the well being of the human race, we pray that we are given the right words and heart when we are faced with those who do not see eye to eye with us, we pray that we are willing to have those tough conversations that are so important to bridge the gaps of difference, we pray for those struggling against white privilege as an individual as well as group, and we pray that though we are undergoing hard times, that we all can rediscover joy under restriction.
