Current Ministries of Our Savior’s

Colorado Faith Communities United to End Gun Violence is made up of diverse faiths striving to reduce injuries, death, and grief resulting from firearms use.

Emerson Gardens provides rental housing in 30 one-bedroom apartments for low and moderate income elderly and adults with physical and mental barriers.  Our Savior’s developed Emerson Gardens more than 30 years ago on land it “sold” for $1.  Currently managed by Senior Housing Options, OSLC continues to sponsor Emerson Gardens, located just north of the church at 940 Emerson Street.

Heartland/CHARGs David Quarton Mental Health Drop-In Center serves as a “warm, welcoming space, providing peer-run programs where [people with mental health concerns] can connect with others in a safe, healing environment.”  Located at OSLC  for more than 40 years, it is temporarily housed elsewhere as we redevelop our facilities.

Helping Hands is an outreach program in which we gather items (e.g., toiletries, food, and clothing such as socks and underwear) for shelters including The Gathering Place, St. Francis Center, and Urban Peak, among others.  We hold five weekend-long sidewalks events yearly, collecting these items primarily from our Capitol Hill neighbors.

Little Free Pantry provides a box containing food and personal care items accessible to everyone all the time, no questions asked.  It is filled by neighbors, for neighbors.

Music has been central to our mission to proclaim God’s grace since Our Savior’s founding in Denver 1873.  In fact, both instrumental and vocal music have been foundational to the Lutheran church worldwide since the sixteenth century and the days of Martin Luther!  At OSLC, a choir often leads us in this proclamation of grace.  Occasionally such special events as outdoor singalongs and a family-oriented Christmas program bring music directly to the neighborhood.

Reconciling in Christ advocates for the “full welcome, inclusion, and equity of LGBTQIA+ Lutherans in all aspects of the life of our church, congregation, and community.”  Our Savior’s was one of the first Denver Lutheran congregations to adopt this policy more than 20 years ago.

Word and Sacrament are celebrated each Sunday as we gather in praise.  Using primarily a traditional Lutheran liturgy, we welcome all people to the Lord’s table in a recognition of God’s grace.
