Highlights from Council and Staff

  • All email blasts and Worship/Zoom information will be sent through Mailchimp. Please reach out to OSLC915@gmail.com for assistance and troubleshooting.
  • Pastor Marty will be on vacation from July 18 through August 1st. Services will continue as scheduled on YouTube and coffee hours and small group meetings will still happen on Zoom.
  • Digital Pastoral Care- If there is a pastoral emergency, please contact Revered Dr. Dena Williams and she will be able to assist digitally. Please contact OSLC915@gmail.com for contact information. Otherwise Pastor Marty can respond to messages that are non-emergency when he returns in August. 
  • If you know of anyone or has checked on those who are shut in or do not have computer access please send their name and physical address to Communications@oslchurchdenver.org. As Violet creates this new e-blast, her hope is that it is a smooth transition to a paper based option that is set to occur later in the Summer.

Prayer Requests:
As a collective and not being specific, we lift up those who have suffered a loss (job, income, family), we lift up that everyone stays well and smart during these unprecedented times, we pray for all small businesses and restaurants affected by Covid, we lift up marriages and health factors that are in question, we lift up the caregivers as they care for others, we lift up the first responders as well as the well being of the human race, we pray that we are given the right words and heart when we are faced with those who do not see eye to eye with us,  we pray that we are willing to have those tough conversations that are so important to bridge the gaps of difference, we pray for those struggling against white privilege as an individual as well as group, and we pray that though we are undergoing hard times, that we all can rediscover joy under restriction.

Care of Creation
 
    “We will care for what we love, and so loving Earth becomes a spiritual practice in this time of crisis. Far more important than loving at a distance is the intimacy of participation in the beyond-human life of our particular place. We may not be able to act individually to reverse the degradation of soils caused by current industrial farming practice. (Fully one-third of topsoil has eroded off the land and lost at the bottom of oceans worldwide.) But we can love Earth here, now. There are even regenerative farmers who coax their soils back to health, reversing those topsoil losses during their lifetimes. Healthy soils thriving with billions of bacteria, fungal filaments, and protozoa retain more water, yield more healthy produce, and sequester more carbon. In fact, shifting the world’s cropland to regenerative agriculture practices could sequester most if not all annual human-caused CO2 emissions.”

Action: Check out this web site on what an incredible difference can be made in sequestering carbon in the atmosphere with different farming practices that are better for the soil, air, and produce a better product for consumption.
